The larger glaciers of the Narvik mountains

Ristatjåkka from S Ristatjåkka from S, July 30, 1995. (56 kB)

The area I here call the Narvik mountains is quite extensive. The central part, with the area´s highest peak; Storsteinsfjell (1893 m), has alpine character, while the Tysfjord mountains are dominated by ice caps. The Bardu mountains finally have mostly small cirque glaciers. The largest glaciers in the area are the roughly same-sized Frostisen and Kitjejekna.

Plus sign after area value means that the glacier is larger, and that part of it lies in Sweden. The number indicates the area on Norwegian territory.
